Where does this terminology come from? What makes a sheet cake a sheet cake?
It’s not as though the cake is birthed from a pile of linens. I can say that with 100% confidence, as I have never found any cake in my linen closet. I did some hi-tech research (a lot of keyboard buttons were pushed and several browser tabs examined) to determine what exactly makes a cake a sheet cake.
A sheet cake is:
1) Baked in a large, flat rectangular pan – like a sheet or a jellyroll pan.
3) Almost always frosted with decorations and ornamental frosting along the borders with a flat top surface.
