Thanksgiving dinner in my house is always different. Although we have some basics – for instance, we always have turkey cooked in the rotisserie along with mashed potatoes and gravy – I always switch up the side dishes.
Now, of course there are some favorites that hit the table year after year. For instance, the stuffing recipe from last year will definitely be used again this year. But others – like carrot dishes, beet dishes and more switch from year to year. The variety, and unexpectedness, of the meal is what makes it extra special for us. Our family just never knows what they will get.
Now, for the past few years, I made a more savory carrot dish that we really like. But in the interest of changing things up (and adding a sweet side dish), we are going to be having Glazed Carrots and Parsnips
this year. They are almost candy-like in taste, and my kids absolutely adore them.
These sweet, succulent veggies are a fabulous complement to savory roasted turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes and stuffing. Spoon a little extra glaze over as you dish them up – they are even better that way.
