4 Pumpkin Drinks for Fall

NY Barfly By

Add some autumn spice to your life in the form of pumpkin-flavored drinks—which luckily don’t involve a trip to the pumpkin patch.

Here are a few options of the alcoholic and non-alcoholic varieties to wet your whistle as the leaves start to change. (And if you still want to go into that field to keep watch for the Great Pumpkin, you should probably pack a thermos.)

pumpkin vodka cocktail

Pumpkin-Infused Vodka

Your local liquor store probably doesn’t stock Absolut Pumpkin—so if you want to make a pumpkin-based drink with vodka, it’s going to be a do-it-yourself operation. Luckily, it’s easier than carving a Jack-o-lantern’s smile. Just open a can of pumpkin and drop the contents into a container of vodka, along with a few cinnamon sticks. Store it in the fridge for a week, and voilà! Simply strain out the pumpkin, and it’s ready to serve. For a sweet treat, mix it up with some amaretto and cream.

Pumpkin Liqueurs

Want to make a pumpkin cocktail, but don’t want to bother with infusing your own liquor? There are a few seasonal pumpkin liqueurs on the market that will orange-ify your drinks without much hassle. Bols makes a popular label dubbed Pumpkin Smash. Pick up a bottle and experiment. You can make a pumpkin margarita by mixing two ounces of tequila with one and a half ounces of Pumpkin Smash and a dash of triple sec. Instead of a lime, garnish the drink with a cinnamon stick.

Pumpkin-Spiced Latte

You can go to your favorite coffee shop and spend big bucks for your pumpkin latte fix, or you can do it yourself (added bonus: no lines!). The recipe is quite simple; all you need to add to your traditional latte is a few spoonfuls of canned pumpkin along with a dash of pumpkin pie spice. Stir this into the milk before you mix it in with the coffee. Just drop in the pumpkin and spice, and whip it all into a latte-worthy foam after heating it up on the stove.

If you want to do the boozy version of a pumpkin latte, add a hit of that pumpkin liqueur mentioned above. The combo makes an excellent after-dinner beverage to serve during dessert at Thanksgiving or a dinner party.

pumpkin teas

Pumpkin Tea

Pumpkin teas are the easiest drink to make on the list, since all you have to do is find a brand that you like. Many tea makers release special pumpkin labels for fall. If you can’t find any at your local grocery store, you can order them online. Who knew that there would be such a burgeoning tea market on the web?
