Everyone loves a burger – but how about a mini burger, a.k.a. slider?

Sliders are the perfect party food: They're small, they're filling and most red-blooded Americans love nothing more than a hunk of beef between two soft buns. Better yet, you can grill 'em, bake 'em or fry 'em up in a pan – meaning that the weather won't spoil your party plans.

A good rule of thumb for cooking for a crowd is to have about one-third of a pound of meat per guest. So, let's say you're making dinner for six: Begin with two pounds of good-quality ground beef.

In a bowl, combine the beef with a tablespoon (tbsp) of Dijon mustard, a drizzle of olive oil, 2 tbsp of bread crumbs, one egg, one or two cloves of chopped garlic and 1 teaspoon each of salt, pepper and thyme. You could use a fork or large spoon to mix this together, but the best tools are really your hands. (Never be afraid to get dirty in the kitchen.)

Next, roll your meat into patties that are about two inches thick and three inches wide, keeping in mind that they'll shrink once you cook them. Place them on the grill or in a hot skillet for about five minutes on each side, or bake them in a 350-degree oven for 15 minutes, flipping halfway through.

The next step is to put these little guys on buns and dress them however you like. If you want to try out some new flavors, you might want to go the route of these:
