Who's been naughty? We love making and giving Naughty Coal Treats
over the holidays. Almost everyone has seen or tried the hard coal candies, so this year we decided to experiment, and the result was yummy! They’re an ooey, gooey delicious treat for anyone who has been naughty OR nice.
The smooth chocolate icing is absolutely delicious and sets up with a thin shell. If you want your coal treats to set up really hard (so you can pack them in treat bags), just make sure to use a black oil-based food coloring to tint the chocolate.1.
Use scissors to snip the marshmallows in half diagonally.2.
Put caramel candies in a glass bowl and microwave for 45 seconds. Add a couple tablespoons of milk to help thin out the caramel. Stir, then microwave at 20 second intervals, stirring after each, until melted.3.
Using a toothpick or fork, dip the marshmallows in caramel, shake off excess, and place on wax paper to dry. (You can put them in the fridge if you want them to dry faster -- just put the wax paper on a baking sheet and transfer it all to the fridge).4.
Put icing in a bowl and microwave 45 seconds, until melted. Add a few drops black food coloring. Take caramel marshmallows and dip in icing. Set on wax paper to dry.5.
