With Halloween coming up, why not host a costume swap and save everyone some precious dough?
A clothing swap party involves bringing clothes/accessories you no longer wear, then trading with others to scoop up their unwanted goods. It’s shopping - for FREE! So do the same for Halloween costumes. If Johnny was Spiderman last year, you know there’s another little guy just dying to sport the spider-webbed costume this year.
Adults tend to get a bit more creative with their costumes; instead of picking up a pre-made outfit, scrounge around the house for treasures. Pearls and a vintage suit? That’s a Jackie O. costume! Hit up your “fun” drawer for glasses, wigs and crazy necklaces. We all have a closet filled with random accessories, now’s the time to break it out!
To set up your costume swap party, keep it fairly simple. Have one room for kid costumes and another for adults. Put costume items for women on one table, and men on the other. Use simple (even hand drawn) signs to indicate which table and room is which. Easy enough, right?
Keep the rules to a minimum. The main rule is first-come, first-serve. If your hand touches that bedazzled jean jacket first, it’s yours. Unless you want to barter, then it’s fair game! Provide recycled bags or baskets for guests to take their loot home.
Decorate with seasonal items, like pumpkins, bowls of candy corn and cobwebs to evoke the Halloween spirit.
Costume Swap Noms
Since it is a party, you’re going to need some festive food and beverages. Your costume swappers will simply scream for: Mummy-Dogs
These hot dogs look like scary mummies, but they definitely don’t taste scary. The kids will love them! Candy Corn Pudding
All kids love pudding, and everyone loves candy corn - so combine the two for a yummy sweet treat! Swamp Juice
Try a spooky cocktail. It's perfect for serving to the adult crowd or sans alcohol for all ages! Autumn Leaf Cookies
Perfect for the season and a breeze to pull off!
Gather your friends, your old costumes and your wackiest accessories and throw a Costume Swap party just in time for All Hallow’s Eve!
