We Made Boozy Freakshakes (and You Should Too)

Created January 26, 2017
freakshake
You've seen them on Instagram, you've seen them on Pinterest. Now it's time to try them yourself.

Everyone loves milkshakes, that’s a fact. Okay, it’s not, but a lot of people do (including us) and adding booze is a no-brainer.

The key to making a killer freakshake is to add everything but the kitchen sink—we aren’t kidding. Not sure what to do with those leftover brownies? Add two! That last slice of birthday cake? Throw it on top of your shake and get wacky with it.

There’s no wrong way to make a freakshake, but there’s A LOT of right ways and we made three: chocolate chip cookie dough, mudslide and birthday cake.

A couple tips for making your boozy freakshake:

  • These get messy! Make them in an area that’s conducive to spills.
  • If you plan on instagramming your masterpiece, have your toppings ready to go and work fast!
  • Let your pint of ice cream soften slightly before blending. If it’s too firm, you may end up adding too much milk, which leads to a runny shake and no one wants that.

CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE DOUGH FREAKSHAKE

This shake is for the cookie monster inside all of us.

To make: Start with a pint of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream and blend with 1/3 cup milk and 1/3 cup chocolate liqueur. If you like your milkshake on the thinner side, we suggest adding a more milk.

Toppings: We topped our shake with an ice cream sandwich, some cookies, and loads of chocolate chips, but literally anything sweet and chocolaty would be incredible.

BIRTHDAY CAKE FREAKSHAKE

Everyone knows the best thing about birthdays is the leftover cake and the best thing to do with leftover cake is to put it on top of your crazy-sweet, creamy freakshake.

To make: We mixed 1 pint of birthday cake ice cream with 1/3 cup of milk and 1/3 cup of cake vodka to create a killer base for our birthday-inspired treat.

Toppings: We stacked a piece of cake, a mini cupcake, lots of whipped cream, rainbow sprinkles and duh, a cherry on top. Because, obviously, you need a cherry on top.

We encourage you to stack as high as you can. The sky is literally the limit when it comes to freakshakes, y’all.

MUDSLIDE BROWNIE FREAKSHAKE

This freakshake is not for the faint of heart. We packed every last indulgent treat we could find in our kitchens into this bad boy.

To make: Chocolate fudge brownie ice cream blended with 1/3 cup of milk and 1/3 cup of Kahlua liqueur make a killer base for this freakshake.

Toppings: We topped it with three (yes THREE!) different brownies, caramel, hot fudge and a dollop of whipped cream for good measure.

Honestly, it could have used some chopped-up candy bars, but we challenge you to fulfill this egregious missed opportunity.
