bake batter in a glass batter bowl (the kind that looks like a giant measuring cup). when cake is done and cooled, cut about 1 inch off the top of the cake (the wide end - which will actually be the BOTTOM of the baseball cap) the 1 inch part will be shaped like the "bill" of the cap. then place the wide side of the "cap" face down on whatever type of tray/plate you'll be preparing & serving it from. now take the 1 inch layer you shaved off the cake. "carve" one side so that it will fit right up against the "cap" (you may even ice it in-between later on to "glue" it to the cap.) shape the rest of it however you like. some people prefer a "squared" bill, some like to leave it a little more rounded **when your son isn't paying attention, use one of HIS to get an idea! :-)
