Hi, @ralspaugh! You should cook your pork at 425 to 450 degrees Fahrenheit and cook it for about 30 minutes for every pound, which in your case would be about 4 hours and 15 minutes. Check to make sure the pork has reached an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit before serving. Let me know how it goes!

I have 2 - 8.5 pound pork loin that I am planning on cooking this weekend for a 50th birthday party. My slow cooker isn't big enough, so I was planning on using a large roaster oven. I wasn't sure about what temp to use and how long I should cook it when using a roaster oven instead of a slow cooker. Any advice would be much appreciated!! This will be my first experiance at using a roaster oven and I was 't sure if it's the same as an actual oven. Thanks!

Pork loins should be cooked for about 30 minutes for every pound. So in your case, @Anonymous, you should cook each for about 4 hours and 15 minutes. When you think it's done cooking, check to make sure the pork has reached an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit before serving. It's also a good idea to use about 1/2 cup of the cooking liquid of your choice, such as water.

The meat needs 1 1/2 hours per pound. I see that some people used a bigger piece of meat but expected it to be done in the same amount of time. You can reduce the cooking time by using smaller pieces as long as there is space between them. If not, it will cook just like it is a single piece. I used this trick in my smoker to reduce the cooking time. Just try to get all the pieces the same weight.

Root beer helps add a lot of the flavor, @Anonymous, so I would recommend using that for the best result. If you're interested in experimenting, however, opt for the coke over beer as it has similar properties to root beer. I hope this helps!

Hi Everyone, Great comments, great recipe. Put two pork butts (4.25 lbs) in my crock pot at 9 am used a little more than 24 oz of root beer, seasoned salt over pork, some garlic powder. Thought maybe 8 hours but am finding 10/11 hours more like it. Added some onion slices. So we won't have it tonight because I thought it would be done for dinner, not so. that's ok. Tomorrow night. Maybe my crock pot is just slower cooking. Just now starting to fall apart after 10 hours.

Hi! You can try to speed up the cook time by placing the slow cooker on high heat for the first hour or two to ensure that the meat reaches a safe heat of 140 degrees Fahrenheit as quickly as possible. Since longer cooking times generally result in more tender meats, I would suggest then switching it back to low heat for another 3 hours. The result will be worth the wait! :)

Hi! You can still cook the tenderloin if it’s frozen. However, you may have to add as much as double the cooking time for frozen tenderloin. We suggest defrosting the tenderloin overnight in the fridge or throwing the meat in a resealable plastic bag and running cold tap water over it until it thaws. To determine the doneness for pork, the internal temperature should be 160 degrees F when using a meat thermometer.

Hi @sburge23! For the best consistency, a slow cooker would be preferred. To cook a pork tenderloin in the oven, preheat oven to 425 F and bake uncovered 20-30 minutes, or until pork has a slight blush of pink in the center and meat thermometer inserted in the center reads 160 F.

There is nothing like meat that has cooked to a level of tenderness that will allow it to shred off any bone. Using your favorite BBQ Sauce sounds so delicious. I wish we could use several slow cookers to cook Pork, Beef, Chicken, & Sausages. I usually go to a BBQ Smokehouse to acquire my favorite BBQ. Now being able to achieve the same tasty, tender meat cooking at home is intriguing! It of course makes me want to start a menu for the sides right now. Let's see: Potato Salad, Baked Beans, Cole-slaw, Corn-on-the-Cobb, Pickle Tray/Raw Vegies, Potato Chips, Nacho Corn Chips - 1 kind of Pie, 1 kind of Cake. Where to buy Kaiser Rolls? I am wishing I knew just where you guys buy your favorite BBQ Sauce? Thanks for giving me this Day Dream!

Just thought you might want to know, someone is trying to rip off your recipe, to the T. They didn't change ANYTHING they just "added" an ingredient... "1 can of cola" But it is the only thing that is changed. They didn't even take away the ALREADY included can of root beer. http://www.tablespoon.com/recipes/4-ingredients-pulled-pork-recipe/2/

I have come to report in. I made the pork last night and chicken tonight. I used A&W for the pork and Stewart's Orange & Cream for the chicken. The chicken turned out great, but the pork, the pork turned out AMAZING and addicting! I am going to make more next week, but I am going to try a local root beer for the pork and a soda called Tahitian Treat for the chicken. OH! Also, I used Sweet Baby Ray's Honey BBQ for the pork, but for the chicken my bf wanted to use his Famous Dave's Devil Spit. I don't like a lot of spice, so I left the chicken naked and we each sauced our own. I used Sonny's Sweet BBQ Sauce.

You can use breasts but thighs would be more moist. Use 2 pounds and only cook for 3-4 hours on low.

I tried this recipe and it came out very tasty. I even added some sliced onions after I drained the soda. Next time I think I'll try a shoulder or butt because the tenderloin didn't shred too well.

Made this tonight - fabulous! And we only used 1 c of BBQ sauce. Any more and it would have been too wet.

Definitely the easiest pulled pork I've ever made. I followed the recipe, with the exception of cutting it in half to serve two people. The pork turned out kind of dry (not sure if that's because of it being a tenderloin or because of cooking a small amount in a 6 quart crock pot), but that was solved once I added the BBQ sauce.

Hi! It is not necessary for all the meat to be submerged in liquid.

Is the whole pork butt suppose I be covered in the soda, or is it okay that the top half is not under the liquid?

We use these a lot for family gatherings and they just love it. I usually by the small Hawaiian rolls and that just brings it all together. You can basically use either root beer, coke, but my favorite is Dr. Pepper! And yes it works with chicken too, except for chicken I use the clear sodas like Orange Crush, 7 up or any citrus flavored soda. Reason being the dark sodas give it a dark color and doesn't look appetizing to me anyway. But it all works!

Yeah, I just tried it with tenderloin and I was a little disappointed that it did not shred. My husband and friends still loved the taste, it just wasn't what I personally was expecting.

Pork Tenderloin? I didn't think a tenderloin would shred like that. It looks DELICIOUS! Will try it soon. (just want to be sure that I am using the right cut of meat.)

@anonymous: I just made this. The flavor of the root beer or Dr Pepper is different once the meet cooks. It just adds a nice sweet flavor and keeps the meet tender and moist. The BBQ sauce is where most of the flavor is at.

I'm sure this is very yummy, however I have made lots of pulled pork recipes, and I think I prefer cooking in lots of vitamin packed chopped veggies, such as carrot, onion, garlic leeks, and it is a good way to use up veggies in your fridge. The featured recipe is great for busy moms who don't have time to chop or really cook. Try my suggestion sometime, it will give the family more fiber and needed nutrition.
