Create a yummy dessert that's chock-full of almonds. Bake these thin bars, using a brownie mix in just a little over an hour!

Ingredients

Brownies

(19.5-oz.) pkg. fudge brownie mix
1/4
cup water
1/2
cup oil
1/2
teaspoon almond extract

eggs

Topping

1/2
cup butter
1 1/2
cups sliced almonds
3/4
cup sugar
2
tablespoons all purpose or unbleached flour
3
tablespoons milk

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottom only of 15x10x1-inch baking pan. In large bowl, combine all brownie ingredients; beat 50 strokes with spoon. Spread batter in greased pan.
  • 2 Bake at 350°F. for 18 to 22 minutes or until top is shiny.
  • 3 Meanwhile, in medium saucepan, combine all topping ingredients; mix well. Cook over medium heat until sugar is dissolved, stirring frequently.
  • 4 Remove pan from oven. Spread topping evenly over brownies. Broil 4 to 6 inches from heat for 1 to 2 minutes or until bubbly. Cool 20 minutes or until topping is set. Cut into bars. Cool 35 minutes or until completely cooled.
Tips  

Almond Brownie Thins Baking the purchased brownie mix in a 15x10x1-inch pan makes these chocolate-almond bars nice and thin. Brownies become an elegant holiday sweet when cut into very small squares and set into festive individual cups.
