Looking for a hearty dinner? Enjoy this mild flavored pork and cabbage dish for a wonderful meal.

Ingredients

3
lb. pork spareribs or country-style ribs
1 1/2
teaspoons salt
1/4
teaspoon pepper
1
(32-oz.) jar sauerkraut, undrained
1/4
cup water
2
tablespoons brown sugar
2
tart apples, peeled, chopped
1
small onion, chopped

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 450°F. Cut ribs into serving-sized pieces. Place in ungreased 13x9-inch pan; sprinkle with salt and pepper. Bake at 450°F. for 20 minutes.
  • 2 Reduce oven temperature to 350°F. Remove ribs from pan; drain and discard meat drippings. In same pan, combine sauerkraut and all remaining ingredients; spread evenly. Arrange ribs on top of sauerkraut mixture.
  • 3 Bake at 350°F. for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or until ribs are tender.
Tips

Pork ribs are very fatty. Baking them for 20 minutes before they're combined with the sauerkraut removes some of the fat and yields a somewhat leaner (but still super-moist and flavorful) meal.
