Blogger Lauren Keating of Healthy-Delicious shares a springtime cocktail fresh from the garden.

Ingredients

tablespoon sugar

tablespoon water

blackberries
Juice of 1 lemon
2
tablespoons gin or blackberry-flavored vodka, if desired

fresh basil leaves
Ice

cup club soda (8 oz)

Directions

  • 1 In cocktail shaker, place sugar and water; stir until sugar is dissolved.
  • 2 Cut 8 of the blackberries into quarters; add to shaker. Add lemon juice, gin and 2 of the basil leaves. Fill shaker with ice. Cover tightly with shaker lid; shake vigorously.
  • 3 Strain mixture into 2 cocktail glasses filled with ice. Top each glass with 1/2 cup club soda. Garnish each with 1 whole blackberry and 1 basil leaf. Serve immediately.
Tips  

Shaking the cocktail is what chills it—don’t be afraid to shake it nice and hard!

If you can find them, try using Meyer lemons in this drink. They’re slightly sweeter and less acidic than more common varieties.
