Tired of oatmeal for breakfast? Try buckwheat groats--very filling, and the chai spices in this mixture give a fantastic flavor.

Ingredients

2
cups milk
1/2
cup uncooked buckwheat groats
2
tablespoons packed brown sugar
1/2
teaspoon salt
1/2
teaspoon pumpkin pie spice
1/8
teaspoon ground cardamom
1/4
teaspoon vanilla
1
tablespoon finely grated orange peel, if desired

Directions

  • 1 In 4-quart saucepan, heat all ingredients except orange peel to boiling over medium-high heat.
  • 2 Reduce heat to low. Cover; cook 45 to 60 minutes, stirring every 20 minutes, until tender.
  • 3 Garnish with orange peel.
Tips

Sprinkling a little extra brown sugar over bowlfuls of this delicious breakfast cereal will bring out the subtle flavor of the chai.

Groats are hulled and crushed buckwheat--also known as kasha or buckwheat kernels. Look for them in the bulk section or the natural foods section of your grocery store.
