    Ingredients

    • 1  Betty Crocker chocolate cake mix, baked according to package directions
    • 1 can Betty Crocker Chocolate Frosting (classic, not whipped)
    • 2 cups milk chocolate chips
    • 2 tablespoons chocolate sprinkles

    Directions

    1. 1Once your cake is cooked and cooled, crumble half of it into a large bowl (cover, wrap, and freeze the other half for later. A full cake makes a LOT of cake pops.)
    2. 2Add 1/4 cup of frosting to the cake mixture. Use a fork to work the frosting through. Continue adding frosting by the tablespoonful, JUST until the cake mixture starts to stick together. It shouldn’t feel wet at all, but should adhere to itself in a playdoh-like texture.
    3. 3Roll tablespoon-fulls of cake into cake balls.
    4. 4In a small, deep, microwave-safe bowl, heat the chocolate chips JUST until they are melted (usually about 90 seconds or so). Stir until smooth.
    5. 5Press the end of a sucker stick into the melted chocolate, then press that end into the center of your cake ball. Take a small spoonful of melted chocolate and carefully smooth it around the bottom part of the stick and cake ball. Allow the chocolate to harden completely.
    6. 6Gently dip the cake ball into the melted chocolate. Allow any excess chocolate to drizzle back into the bowl before pressing the top of the cake pop into crushed peanuts or chocolate sprinkles. Turn the cake pop right side up and press the bottom of the sucker stick into a piece of styrofoam. Allow the cake pops to cool upright until ready to serve.
    7. 7Once chocolate is hardened, serve the cake pops, or cover them and store them in the fridge for up to three days. Enjoy!

These were a huge hit! However, I'm only giving it 4 stars out of 5 because the "total time" is misleading. You have to bake the cake first (add about 30-45 mins for that) and refrigerate (about 2 hours) before frosting. I would estimate closer to 3 hours to make these. Also (from lessons learned) it's easier to do, especially if you are making multiple batches or individually wrapping them, if you split it into two day - day 1: make the cake, mix with frosting, make into balls & put in the fridge; day 2: frost and wrap. You can get small plastic bags and the sticks from a craft store.
