Add a touch of sophistication to your next brunch gathering with this decadent recipe. Orange-flavored liqueur flavors fresh berries for an easy slow-cooker sauce.

Ingredients

Berry Sauce

1
lb fresh strawberries, stems removed
6
oz fresh blueberries
6
oz fresh raspberries
1/4
cup sugar
1/4
cup orange-flavored liqueur
Grated peel and juice of 1 medium orange

Waffles

2
cups Original Bisquick™ mix
1/2
cup sugar
1/4
cup unsweetened baking cocoa
1
egg
1 1/3
cups milk
2
tablespoons vegetable oil

Directions

  • 1 Spray 3 1/2- to 4-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. In slow cooker, place all sauce ingredients. Cover; cook on High heat setting 2 to 3 hours or until thickened.
  • 2 Toward end of cooking time, heat waffle iron. (Waffle irons without a nonstick coating may need to be brushed with vegetable oil or sprayed with cooking spray before batter for each waffle is added.) In large bowl, mix all waffle ingredients with whisk just until smooth.
  • 3 Pour slightly less than 3/4 cup batter onto center of hot waffle iron. (Check manufacturer’s directions for recommended amount of batter.) Close lid of waffle iron. Bake about 5 minutes or until steaming stops. Carefully remove waffle. Repeat with remaining batter. Serve waffles with warm berry sauce.
Tips

To make a non-boozy berry sauce, substitute water for the liqueur.

Top the waffles with additional fresh berries, if desired.
