  • 1  pouch (1 lb 1.5 oz) Betty Crocker® sugar cookie mix
  • 1/3  cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1  egg
  • 2  to 3 drops red or green food color

I have made these cookies since I was a little girl with my mom! The only thing we do different is we add about 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract to the sugar cookie dough to give it the the flavor of a candy cane!

if you want a brighter red, go for about 6-7 drops. WOW! vibrant colour, really attractive, and super yummy! happy holidays <3

I have been making these for years, but after the first year I don't even bother forming them in to canes. I just put some food coloring in to make it fun and then bake them like you would any other cookie. So much easier and just as good!!!

Would some peppermint extract work okay in these?

I was also going to add that a nice little dusting of finely crushed candy cane is a great topper to finish them off!

I love these cookies. My family has been making them every year for Christmas. Be sure to not bake them too long or they turn brown and aren't as flaky. Topping with a dusting of crushed candy cane adds the extra tough :)
