Like a lot of cooks, you probably tweak recipes slightly to suit your family's tastes and diets. A little extra spice here... sub low-fat sour cream there...

Beat butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla in large bowl with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. Stir flour, baking powder and salt together and add to butter/sugar mixture.
Chill dough at least 1 hour.
Heat oven to 400°F. Roll dough out on floured surface to 1/8" thickness.Cut with cutters and place on ungreased cookie sheet. If decorating with sprinkles do so now. Bake 6-8 minutes until golden. Do not burn!
Cool before frosting.
