If crème brûlée and carnival churros fell in love and had a baby, that baby would taste like this insanely tasty cinnamon-topped custard bar. Just as delicious as fancy crème brûlée but way, way easier to make, this mash-up is addictingly tasty.

Ingredients

  • 1 crust from 1 box (14.1 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Pie Crusts (2 Count), softened as directed on package
  • 4 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon Mexican vanilla (or plain vanilla extract)
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 1/4 cup cinnamon sugar

Steps

  • 1
Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease an 8 x 8-inch baking pan with nonstick baking spray. Unroll pie crust and line the bottom of the pan with it. Use a sharp knife to gently remove the edges, so the pie only lines the bottom of the pan.
  • 2
In a stand mixer, combine the eggs, sugar and butter, creaming until light and fluffy. Add vanilla, flour and milk. Mix until combined and pour into crust.
  • 3
Bake for 40 minutes. Carefully open the oven and sprinkle a layer of cinnamon sugar over the top of the bars. Return to oven and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until the center is jiggly but firm.
  • 4
Allow to cool completely before slicing. Move bars to refrigerator to speed up the cooling process, if necessary.

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
Mexican vanilla will add a slight cinnamon flavor to the filling, but if you can’t find it at your store, you can substitute regular vanilla extract and a dash of cinnamon.
  • tip 2
Store any leftover bars in the refrigerator, tightly covered.

More About This Recipe

  • Crème brûlée is a classic dessert with a caramelized sugar covering the top. To caramelize that sugar, bakers will cover their custards in sugar and either place the custards under a broiler, or apply heat directly using a blow torch. We took the idea of that sugary top and added cinnamon-y churro flavor. So whether you try these bars because you love crème brûlée or because have mad cravings for churros, you’re about to be delighted by this dessert.
