A wonderful family dessert, this crisp adds cranberries to the classic apple recipe.

Ingredients

Fruit Mixture

5
cups (5 medium) sliced peeled apples
1 1/2
cups fresh or frozen cranberries
1
cup sugar
2
tablespoons all-purpose flour
1
teaspoon cinnamon

Topping

1
cup rolled oats
1/2
cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/3
cup all-purpose flour
1/3
cup margarine or butter
1/2
cup chopped nuts

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 375°F. Grease 12x8-inch (2-quart) baking dish. In large bowl, combine all fruit mixture ingredients; toss to coat. Spoon into greased baking dish.
  • 2 In small bowl, combine rolled oats, brown sugar and 1/3 cup flour. With pastry blender or fork, cut in margarine until crumbly. Stir in nuts. Sprinkle topping evenly over fruit.
  • 3 Bake at 375°F. for 30 to 40 minutes or until topping is golden brown and apples are tender. If desired, serve with ice cream, whipped cream or whipped topping.
Tips

If you like cooked apples to retain a bit of firmness, use Granny Smiths; if you prefer a softer baked texture, McIntosh apples would be a good choice.
