Creamy chicken stew made using bacon and peas and served with biscuits make s a hearty dinner - ready in 45 minutes.

Ingredients

4
slices bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
1
lb. boneless skinless chicken breast halves, cut into 1/2 to 3/4-inch pieces
1 1/2
cups frozen sweet peas
3
teaspoons paprika
2
(12-oz.) jars home-style chicken gravy
1/2
cup sour cream
1
(6-oz.) can (5 biscuits) refrigerated buttermilk flaky biscuits

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 375°F. Cook bacon in large ovenproof skillet over medium heat until crisp. Remove bacon from skillet; drain on paper towels.
  • 2 Reserve 2 tablespoons drippings in skillet. Add chicken; cook over medium-high heat until chicken is no longer pink in center, stirring frequently.
  • 3 Stir in bacon, peas, paprika and gravy. Reduce heat to medium; cook about 4 minutes or until bubbly, stirring frequently. Stir in sour cream until well mixed.
  • 4 Separate dough into 5 biscuits. Cut each in half crosswise. Arrange biscuits, cut side down, around outer edge of hot stew.
  • 5 Bake at 375°F. for 15 to 18 minutes or until biscuits are deep golden brown.
Tips

Instead of cutting each piece of biscuit dough in half, let children use cookie cutters to stamp out shapes. Have them use their imaginations with the scraps of dough remaining, making "puzzle pieces," "monsters," "paw prints" and other creations that, for consistency in baking, should be about the same size as the cutouts.

Before baking, brush the top of each biscuit with olive oil or melted butter. Sprinkle with caraway seed or sesame seed.
