Crescent Mummy Dogs

Wrap up a hot dog in true mummy fashion in this fun Halloween take on classic Crescent Dogs.

Halloween Yummy Mummy Dogs

I am a wimp when it comes to all things scary, so usually I am not the biggest diehard fan of Halloween.


But if you have kids, you don’t get much of a choice in the matter - as most kids LOVE Halloween! I know I did as a kid. So I like to keep my Halloween treats kid friendly and not scary!

Growing up, my mom would always make us mummy dogs. They were hot dogs wrapped in pizza dough. I decided I would make some, but instead use crescent rolls… Crescent Mummy Dogs. Sorry mom, I like this version better.

And, of course, the best part is that kids love to help make them. Something about wrapping the dough around and around. Getting the kids to help is always a good choice, not only are they learning to cook, but kids are more likely to eat food items that they help make.

We made these for a little lunch before we went to see “Frankenweenie,” as it was a fun way to make a whole day of it. Most kids don’t need an excuse to have a party… heck, that goes for many adults too.

I made them with both Pillsbury Reduced Fat Crescents and regular Crescents. The kids were torn between which ones they liked better.

So grab some kids, hot dogs and Crescent rolls and get wrapping!



Unroll dough; separate at perforations creating four rectangles; press perforations to seal. With knife or kitchen scissors, cut each rectangle lengthwise into 10 pieces, making a total of 40 pieces of dough.

 



Cut cheese slices into quarters (1/2 slice cheese, cut in half). Wrap four pieces of dough around each hot dog and 1/4 slice of cheese to look like "bandages," stretching the dough slightly to completely cover hot dog.

 



About 1/2 inch from one end of each hot dog, separate the "bandages," so the hot dog shows through for a "face."

 



Heat oven to 375°F. Place wrapped hot dogs (cheese side down) on a large, ungreased cookie sheet; spray dough lightly with cooking spray. Bake 13 to 17 minutes or until dough is light golden brown and hot dogs are hot. Before serving, draw on facial features with mustard.

 



Serve with your favorite chips and enjoy your Halloween outing.

Crescent Mummy Dogs

Ingredients

can (8 oz) Pillsbury® refrigerated crescent dinner rolls or 1 can (8 oz) Pillsbury® Crescent Recipe Creations® refrigerated seamless dough sheet
2 1/2
slices American cheese, quartered (2.5 oz)

large hot dogs
Cooking spray
Mustard or ketchup, if desired

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 375°F.
  • 2 If using crescent rolls: Unroll dough; separate at perforations, creating 4 rectangles. Press perforations to seal. If using dough sheet: Unroll dough; cut into 4 rectangles.
  • 3 With knife or kitchen scissors, cut each rectangle lengthwise into 10 pieces, making a total of 40 pieces of dough. Slice cheese slices into quarters (1/2 slice cheese, cut in half).
