1

Decorations

12
(7 inch) chocolate licorice twists (from 12-oz bag)
1/2
cup Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy chocolate frosting (from 16-oz container), divided
3
tablespoons chocolate candy sprinkles
1
cup Betty Crocker™ Rich & Creamy creamy white frosting (from 16-oz container)
Green gel food color
1
pouch (7 oz) Betty Crocker™ Cookie Icing white icing
20
brown mini candy-coated milk chocolate candies
20
small green gumdrops, cut in half vertically
10
green mini candy-coated milk chocolate candies
5
candy corn, cut in half vertically

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. Make cookie dough as directed on pouch for Cutout Cookies—except cover and refrigerate dough 20 minutes. On lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Using 3 1/4–inch round cookie cutter and knife, cut out 10 circles and 10 (3-inch) triangles, gently pressing together and rerolling dough scraps as necessary.
  • 2 For each cookie, arrange 1 dough triangle and 1 dough circle, sides touching, on ungreased cookie sheets, leaving 3 inches between cookies. Bake 8 to 9 minutes or until edges are light golden brown. Cool 1 minute; carefully remove from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely before decorating.
  • 3 Meanwhile, cut 5 pieces licorice in half, making 10 (3 1/2-inch) pieces for brim of hat; set aside. Cut remaining licorice into 20 (2-inch) pieces, saving 1-inch scraps. For each 2-inch piece, cut 3 (1 1/2-inch) slits, creating “hair” strands; set aside. Using scraps, cut licorice crosswise into 20 (1/8-inch) rings. For each ring, cut through just to center; open up to form strip for eyebrows; set aside.
  • 4 In snack-size resealable food-storage plastic bag, place 2 tablespoon chocolate frosting; seal bag. Cut 1/8-inch opening diagonally across bottom corner of bag; set aside. Frost cooled triangles (hats) with remaining chocolate frosting. Using 3 1/2-inch licorice pieces, press into frosting at bottom of triangles to create brims; sprinkle hats with chocolate sprinkles.
  • 5 In small bowl, add 1 cup vanilla frosting. Stir in green gel to desired color. In snack-size resealable food-storage plastic bag, place 1 tablespoon green frosting; seal bag. Cut 1/8-inch opening diagonally across bottom corner of bag; set aside. Frost circles (faces) with remaining green frosting.
  • 6 To Decorate Cookies: For each cookie, using white icing, pipe two small round-shaped dollops onto green frosting for eyes; press 1 brown milk chocolate candy on each. To create nose, use 4 green gumdrop halves, pressing flat sides into frosting. Using green frosting in plastic bag, pipe small dollop on side gumdrop; press 1 green milk chocolate candy on dollop for wart.
  • 7 To create hair and eyebrows, press remaining licorice pieces on frosting (see photo). To create lower lip, using chocolate frosting in plastic bag, pipe thin line frosting. Press 1 candy corn half, flat side down, on frosting, overlapping bottom lip for tooth. Connecting both sides, pipe thin line frosting over top edge of candy corn to finish mouth. Store in airtight container.
Tips

To ensure that the hat and face don’t break apart, wait at least 1 hour for frosting to harden before transferring cookies to storage container.

These cookies are simple and goofy, making them a perfect project for kids. Even younger children will be able to create very cute witch faces!
