Tips & Techniques

  • High Altitude (3500 to 6500 feet)

Cook beef and onions over medium-high heat.

  • Betty’s Tip

For a change of pace, use 2 pounds of bulk pork sausage or ground chicken or turkey instead of the ground beef. As a time-saver, use 1 cup frozen chopped onion or 1/4 cup instant minced onion instead of the fresh onion. Garnish this easy supper with slices of crisp, juicy apples.

Ingredients

  • 2  pound ground beef
  • 2  medium onions, chopped (1 cup)
  • 2  cans (15.5 ounces each) original sloppy joe sauce
  • 2  cups shredded Cheddar cheese (8 ounces)
  • 2  cups baking mix
  • 1  cup milk
  • 2  eggs

Directions

  1. 1Heat oven to 400º. Cook beef and onions in ovenproof 12-inch skillet over medium heat 8 to 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until beef is brown; drain. Stir in sloppy joe sauce. Sprinkle with cheese.
  2. 2Stir remaining ingredients until blended. Pour over beef mixture. If skillet is not ovenproof, cover handle with aluminum foil.
  3. 3Bake uncovered about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
