Lynda Petty’s family paces themselves through dinner to enjoy Favorite Fruit Cobbler for dessert. It’s a recipe from the Betty Crocker Racing Family collection.

Ingredients

can (21 ounces) cherry, peach, blueberry or other fruit pie filling
1
cup Original Bisquick™ mix
1/4
cup milk
1
tablespoon sugar
1
tablespoon butter or margarine, softened

Directions

  • 1 Spread pie filling in ungreased 1 1/2-quart casserole. Place in cold oven. Heat oven to 400°F; let heat 10 minutes. Remove pan from oven.
  • 2 While pie filling is heating, stir remaining ingredients until soft dough forms. Drop by 6 spoonfuls onto warm pie filling. Sprinkle with additional sugar if desired.
  • 3 Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until topping is light brown.

Lynda's Recipe Tips:

  • "If I'm making peach or apple cobbler, I like to add 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg to the baking mix. I also use brown sugar instead of the granulated."
  • "My family especially enjoys this warm cobbler with sweetened whipped cream or ice cream."
  • "For special occasions, I cut the dough into shapes appropriate for the occasion. I make the dough as directed--except when dough forms, I knead it about 5 times on a surface lightly dusted with baking mix. Then I roll it about 3/4 inch thick and cut into desired shapes with a floured cookie cutter. I place it on the fruit filling in the pan and bake as directed."

    Cobblers are named because you make their top crust of dough from individual biscuits, similar to cobblestones.

    Peach and apple cobblers are especially yummy when you add 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg to the Bisquick. You can also use brown sugar instead of granulated for a richer sweetness.
