Ingredients

  • 6 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3 tablesoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg (*optional)
  • 12 slices soft wheat bread, each cut into 4 pieces
  • Powdered sugar for dusting
  • Maple syrup for serving
  • Butter or oil for the griddle

Steps

  • 1
Beat eggs and milk in a shallow bowl. Beat in honey, nutmeg and vanilla extract. Set aside.
  • 2
Cut each piece of bread into 4 vertical sticks.
  • 3
Add butter or oil to griddle a tbsp at a time and heat to medium-high heat.
  • 4
Dip bread sticks, four at a time, into egg mixture, turning to coat. Remove quickly and place on griddle. Repeat until griddle is full. Cook until under-side is golden brown, then flip with a spatula. Cook until other side is golden brown and remove to warm platter. Repeat until all French toast sticks are cooked, adding more cooking oil a tbsp at a time as needed. (Keep the cooked French toast sticks warm in a baking dish in the oven until all are done.)
