    Ingredients

    • 1 medium onion
    • 1 small hot pepper
    • 2 cloves garlic
    • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
    • 1 cup small red lentils
    • 1 teaspoon cumin
    • 1 teaspoon coriander
    • 1/8 teaspoon cardamon
    • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne
    • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
    • 1/8 teaspoon ginger
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
    • water

    Directions

    1. 1Cut up onion, garlic, and as much hot pepper as you would like
    2. 2Place all of them in a pot and pour in enough vegetable oil (1/2 cup) so the ingredients swim in it
    3. 3Let this simmer for about 5 minutes
    4. 4wash lentils and add into mixture
    5. 5Add remaining spices and add enough water so that the lentils are covered. You will need to add water as it cooks down until it reaches a consistency you like. The less water, the more firm the lentils - the more water, the more soupy
    6. 6Stir very often so lentils do not burn, approximately every 5-10 minutes
