Ingredients

  • 1 small box Jell-O™ orange
  • 1 small box Jell-O™ green
  • 1 large box Jell-O™ blue
  • 2 cans (14-ounce) sweetened condensed milk
  • 6 packets unflavored gelatin, divided use
  • 3 cups flavored vodka, divided use
  • 60 dollops whipped cream
  • 60 orange & green Skittles™

Steps

  • 1
Lightly coat a square dish with cooking spray, and then using a paper towel, wipe out the dish. It will leave a light residue to help unmold your shots, but it won't affect the taste.
  • 2
For the orange layer, sprinkle half of a packet of gelatin over 1/4 cup of water. Allow it to soak in a minute or two. Add one box of the orange or peach gelatin, along with 1 cup boiling water. Stir until everything has dissolved. Add 3/4 cup of vodka. Repeat the same process to make the green layer.
  • 3
To make the blue layer, start with 1/2 cup water and sprinkle a full packet of unflavored gelatin on top. Add the box of blue gelatin dessert, 2 cups of boiling water, and then once everything is dissolved, add 1 1/2 cups of vodka.
  • 4
To make the white layer, sprinkle two packets of gelatin over 1/2 cup of water. Allow it to soak in a minute or two. Pour in 1 cup of boiling water and one 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk. Stir until everything is thoroughly mixed and gelatin is dissolved. You'll have approximately 3 cups of liquid. Allow to cool to room temperature. If, during the process, it starts to gel and thicken, pop it in the microwave for a few seconds and stir. (You will need to make a second batch of the white layer for the second half of the shots, but don't make it until closer to when you need it).
  • 5
Pour some of the orange mixture into the prepared pan and green into the second pan. Place pans in refrigerator to set, about 20 minutes or so. Once set, add the same amount of the white mixture to the top . Pop any air bubbles and return to fridge to set for about 20 minutes. Repeat with the blue mixture and continue repeating until the pans are full or you're out of gelatin.
  • 6
For the first pan, you'll go in this order: Orange,White,Blue,White,Orange,White,Blue.
  • 7
For the second pan, you'll go in this order: Green,White,Blue,White,Green,White,Blue.
  • 8
When you're ready to serve, gently pull the edges away from the pan, and invert onto a cutting board. Slice into even squares. (Alternately, you can just cut in the pan itself, but it might be harder to remove the first few squares). Place on serving platter and top with whipped cream, using a piping bag or can. Top with color-coordinated candies.

More About This Recipe

  • Hut, hut… HIKE! (Or… “OMAHA! OMAHA! If you prefer). If you’re like me, a big game party just wouldn’t be complete without a few boozy bites. Get in the game by making them in the colors of the teams that are playing. This year it’s Seattle versus Denver! Optional garnish: Place on serving platter and top with whipped cream. If using homemade, use a piping bag. Otherwise, you can always use the canned variety. The whipped cream will start to melt pretty quickly, so you may want to allow guests to add their own or skip this step entirely. Another option would be to walk around and serve them as soon as you’ve added the whipped cream. A quick note about the colors. They will appear slightly “pastel” due to the white layers. You could try adding a few drops of food coloring to deepen the color a bit, but I thought they were pretty as-is. Skinnier white layers might help as well. Also… although the peach gelatin was a delicious accident, I think orange would be a little… well, more orangey. If you’d like, add Skittles or other colored candies to coordinate with each team. (One of Seattle’s players has a particular affinity for Skittles, so it works). Plate them together or separately, and encourage partygoers to support their team by which jelly shot they choose. OR, if all of your guests are rooting for the same team, simply make one pan of shots. Either way, you’re sure to score major points at the party. TOUCHDOWN!
