    Ingredients

    • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
    • 2/3 cup shortening
    • 1 1/3 cups molasses
    • 2 eggs
    • 5 1/2 cups flour
    • 4 teaspoons ground cinnamon
    • 2 teaspoons ground ginger
    • 2 teaspoons baking soda
    • 1 teaspoon salt

    Directions

    1. 1Mix brown sugar, shortening, and molasses
    2. 2Stir in the remaining ingredients
    3. 3Cover and refrigerated for at least one hour
    4. 4Heat the oven to 375 F
    5. 5Roll the dough out to 1/4 inch thick on a lightly floured cloth-covered board
    6. 6Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters
    7. 7Place about 1 inch apart onto lightly greased cookie sheet
    8. 8Bake until no indentation remains when touched, about 7 to 8 minutes
    9. 9Cool completely
    10. 10Frost and decorate as you wish
