I’ve spent a lot of time in the cereal aisle. Probably a little too much time. I just love looking at all the yummy options!
I’ve had days where I’ve had cereal for breakfast, lunch and dinner. In fact, I basically lived on cereal in college. So you can imagine my excitement when I spotted THIS
idea on Pillsbury.com. Cereal cake? Yes please!
Going with my theory that everything is better when it’s miniature, I decided to make mini cereal cakes
. If I do say so myself, these turned out über-cute! After agonizing over the many cereal options, I went with three classics: Honey Cheerios, Lucky Charms and Trix. Don’t be fooled - they are ALL magically delicious!
If you want to make true mini cakes, you’ll need to purchase a mini cake pan like this one.
It’s so cute I can’t stand it!
Next up, you’ll need to melt some butter. Add marshmallows (I used the big ones) and coat with melted butter. Melt that gooey concoction together and add your favorite cereal. If you think this is similar to a rice krispy treat (or an even yummier Cinnamon Toast Crunch Treat
), you’d be right!
The next step is quite important – be sure to spray the inside of the cake pan liberally with vegetable oil or else you’ll get yourself into a sticky situation. Literally. Let sit in the mold for about 30 minutes and then turn the mold over on a plate. You may need to give the pan a few good whacks to get the cakes to come out, but they will!
Then you have adorable mini cereal cakes that you can decorate to your heart’s content. I used miniature flags, Betty Crocker frosting, edible glitter and pearl sprinkles. Swirl away and prepare to impress your party guests with these yummy treats! They would be perfect for a kids party or on a brunch table – it is cereal after all! Or just have yourself a cereal party – I basically do it once a week!
Happy Cereal Party-ing!
More cereal fun!
