Wow! I have baked Monkey Bread for 42+ years as a Boy Scouts of America leader. We always used the same sleeves of refrigerated biscuits, cut into 4 pieces, rolled into balls, dipped into melted margarine (butter for purists), then rolled the balls in granulated sugar mixed with cinnamon (2 c. sugar + 1 - 2 tsp. cinnamon) for sweet OR rolled in seasoned grated cheese (2 c. dried Parmesan + 1 tsp. dried Italian seasoning or your choice) for a savory loaf. We made a 12" - 14" square of aluminum foil into a baseball sized item to place in the center of a 9" pie pan or cake pan. Bake at the temperature listed on the outside of the refrigerated biscuits for the length of time on the wrapper - or - in a cardboard box oven which we had made at summer day camp. The boys and girls on our staff also made these at home. They all took the ring shaped loaf to serve upon a plate. There was no 'icing'. The whole point of the name "Monkey" Bread is that you take your thumb and pointer finger to 'pinch' off a bite of the tasty loaf. I will concede that you could make this version - size wise - in individual cupcake wrappers but made with the system I've posted above to serve several people individual loaves, but not with any syrup. The syrup will make sweet, sticky fingers, therefore they will have to be eaten with a fork or spoon to avoid an extra mess!
