Tips & Techniques

  • High Altitude (3500-6500 ft):

Follow High Altitude directions for 13x9-inch pan on brownie mix box.

  • Special Touch

Cut brownies into bite-size treats for a dessert buffet.

Ingredients

  • Brownie Base
  • 1  box (1 lb 6.5 oz) Betty Crocker® Original Supreme brownie mix
  • Water, vegetable oil and eggs called for on brownie mix box
  • Filling
  • 1/2  cup butter, softened
  • 1/2  cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2  cups powdered sugar
  • 2  teaspoons milk
  • Topping
  • 1  cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4  cup butter

Directions

  1. 1Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottom only of 13x9-inch pan with cooking spray or shortening. (For easier cutting, line pan with foil, then grease foil on bottom only of pan.)
  2. 2In medium bowl, stir brownie mix, pouch of chocolate syrup, water, oil and eggs until well blended. Spread in pan. Bake 28 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted 2 inches from side of pan comes out almost clean. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
  3. 3In medium bowl, beat filling ingredients with electric mixer on medium speed until smooth. Spread mixture evenly over brownie base.
  4. 4In small microwavable bowl, microwave topping ingredients uncovered on High 30 to 60 seconds; stir until smooth. Cool 10 minutes; spread over filling. Refrigerate about 30 minutes or until set. For brownies, cut into 9 rows by 4 rows. Store covered in refrigerator.

Hi @mrsjones01! The topping needs to be chilled for about 10 minutes before placing over the filling. This should help spread it better.

Just made these for a baby shower, the mother-to-be has been craving peanut butter. Everything but the topping turned out great. I'm not sure what I could have done differently. It ended up not spreading well. Not sure if I should have chilled brownie and filling layers first. Any advice would be welcomed.

I just finished making these peanut butter brownies.. I would use 2 tbls. of milk.. instead of 2 tsp. like the reciepe called for.. it was to dry & clumpy.. by adding a bit more milk the texture was more creamier and spreadable.

if you use crisco instead of butter for the topping may work better if you are having trouble.

This recipe tasted amazing. The middle peanut butter part was simple and delicious. I dont know what happened to the top layer when I made it but it didn't turn out all that great. I almost felt like I should have put less butter and more choc chips. Overall good though.

I can't find the 1-lb. 6 oz. size mix in my supermarket. It has been made smaller to accomodate an 11 x 7 inch pan!! Has the larger size been discontinued?

These were amazing! The brownies were so rich and they tasted like fudge, this was the perfect combination of chocolate and peanut butter. They are also very easy to make, i have made them many times and the recipe never gets old.

This is an amazing recipe. If you love peanut butter and chocolate this is your dessert! Also, you can use the peanut butter filling in other recipes. I used it as the filling chocolate for a chocolate cake, tasted like a giant REESE'S Peanut Butter Cup!
