Ingredients

  • 1 oz gin
  • 1 oz blue curacao
  • 1/2 oz Midori™
  • 2 oz guava nectar or pineapple juice
  • 10 - 12 Pixy Stix™
  • Ice cubes

Steps

  • 1
Cut the ends of 10 to 12 pixie stix and empty them into a rimmer dish or flat round plate. The color of the rimmer will depend on how you mix the colors. Reds and oranges will give off a light, pastel color, while the blues, purples and greens create a deeper color. Do not mix all the colors together as it changes into a muddy color when combined with water.
  • 2
Dip your martini glass into enough water to coat just the rim. Gently shake off any access water, place the glass onto the rimmer and slowly move it in a circle to coat. Let the glass sit a bit to let the rimmer set.
  • 3
Fill the shaker with the gin, midori, blue curacao, guava nectar or pineapple juice and ice.
  • 4
Shake for a few minutes and then pour into the rimmed glass.

More About This Recipe

  • When my favorite restaurant closed its doors, it took with it a fabulous menu, an extraordinary wine list and an amazing martini cocktail. The Pixie Stix™ Martini. On a recent trip down "restaurant memory lane" with my friends (yeah, we're foodie nerds), we reminisced about one of our all-time favorites, JP's Bistro in Minneapolis. While there were heated debates surrounding the succulent merits of the rib eye versus the porterhouse, there was one thing no one would dare to find fault with — the Pixie Stix™ Martini. Not only did this martini have the perfect "pucker" that made you stand up and take notice, it was pretty. Carrying it around made you feel gorgeous (granted, depending on how many you had, that could've been the gin). So what else was a girl to do than to try her hand at recreating this beloved little "tini?" I had instigated many a stealthily planned conversations with the bartenders to get the recipe. While they didn't give up all the goods, I did pick up that I was working with four main ingredients: a pixie stix candy rimmer, gin, midori and blue curacao. Armed with this knowledge, I was off like a dirty shirt.
  • You can usually find pixie six™ at most grocery, party or candy stores. If you don’t have a rimmer, one trick I learned was to use a plastic lid from a quart sized take out container. Depending on the size of your martini glass, it should be large enough to fit the glass, and just enough depth for the right water level. I don't know about you, but I like my martini's to be bone-chillingly cold. To accomplish this, I'll store my martini shaker in my freezer a few minutes before use. You will also need something to "cut" the liquor. A lot of cocktail recipes recommend pineapple juice, which totally works. However, for this experiment I tried pure guava nectar juice and it was the jam! Once you shake and pour into the rimmed glass, you'll see the martini go from girl to woman right before your eyes. Trust me, it's a beautiful sight. Enjoy!
