I like sugar. But what is wrong with this icing it wasn't even all wet . I had to go and add a number of things just to get it right. So quickly run and hide. Don't waste good sugar. This will consume all of it. Rrrrrrrruuuuuuunnnnnnnn.

This worked great for me. I halved everything because I didn't need that much icing. I mixed it in a ziplock bag and cut a hole in a corner to squeeze the icing out. I decorated my gingerbread cookies with the icing and it dried nicely on them. I used milk and had to use slightly more than this recipe would call for if halved.

Some more advice, fondant does not in fact work well with gingerbread, I rolled out fondant with a rolling pan, made wreath and hung it on my gingerbread house's door, it did not turn out well. Next time us dirty icing to pipe along the perimeters of the fondant, then roll the outer layer out and stick it on. This icing is great glue for gb houses.

I tired the recipe and it hardens relatively quickly within a couple minutes (less than 2 i'd say). It's a little on the sweet side but a dash of cream fo tartar helps balance out the taste so its not so "AH POWDERED SUGAR". used this recipe to frost sugar cookies. used with gel food coloring. is amazing! :3

If you follow directions exactly, and then add a teaspoon extra of vanilla extract and a touch more milk, the recipe is perfect. However, sometimes the icing can taste too sweet. (If so, continue adding vanilla until it tastes alright.) Yes, sometimes it can taste a bit runny, so keep adding vanilla and powdered sugar. So, if you want to have my recipe, use the following steps: 1 cup powdered sugar (I recommend way less sugar, but if it is runny, add more) 1 1/2 teaspoon milk 1 teaspoon vanilla (add more if icing tastes too sweet) BTW: I am a huge vanilla fan, so if you are a sweet tooth I recommend less vanilla and more sugar--or less vanilla & more milk if you like a bland taste. Also, fondont and this icing work really well together. So, if you can, I recommend a combination of both for a picture-perfect cake.) Also, those of you who added too much water, I recommend milk next time, and add more sugar for now. Just some advice:)

I see from comments you people don't know the difference between ICING and FROSTING. Icing is thin and runny and if you put it on a bundt cake or cookie it will run down the sides, which is what it is supposed to do. If you want it to stay in one place on a cake, you need Frosing not Icing.

This was super easy! Although instead of vanilla, I used strawberry milk powder. The frosting came out thicker and cute. I am disappointed at the amount this recipe made. I even doubled it and it wasn't enough for my cookies. But nonetheless, this was great! Thanks!

THIS IS A REALLY SMALL BATCH! I USED 4 CUP CONFECTIONS SUGAR DIDN'T PACK IT IN MEASURING CUP JUST POURED IT IN. I WHIPPED 6 TABLESPOONS OF BUTTER IN HALF THE SUGAR AND GRADUALLY ADDED THE REMAINING SUGAR & MILK & VANILLA AT A TIME AND ALSO ADDED 1 TEASPOON OF LEMON JUICE IT REALLY MAKES A DIFFERENCE IN THE SWEETNESS IS KIND OF TAKES SOME OF THE SWEETNESS OUT TRY IT BEFORE AND AFTER AND YOU'LL SEE THE DIFFERENCE! IT MAKES A GREAT ICING THAT GOES REALLY WELL WITH BANANA CAKE YELLOW CAKE MIX WITH A LAYER OF SLICED BANANAS THAT ARE MORE RIPE. I USED IT ON BLUEBERRY MUFFINS WITH FRESH BLUEBERRIES ON TOP. ENJOY!!

I made it but added a pinch of salt about a tablespoon of butter (i used water not milk) and then about a teaspoon of strawberry flavored kool aid - We put a little on some pink lemonade home made cookies and everyone LOVED them. And the color of the icing was perfect for a summer bright pink

This icing was amazing ! It's my favourite by far, if it gets to thick like most people said, add a little more milk or water, milk is preferred as it makes it more creamy but to thin add a little more icing sugar. It shouldn't be piled on something like a cupcake for example, but about half an inch high on it.

I grew up on this recipe. If it comes out too thick, your powdered sugar was too packed when you measured. If it comes out too thin, just add more powdered sugar by the spoonful til you get the consistancy you want. This is not an icing that is meant to be piled on your desert. It is closer to a glaze, than a traditional thick fluffy icing.
