For an Easter-time win, look no further than this bread basket salad!
What’s better than a bread basket? Why, a basket made out of bread, of course!
And this basket is particularly delish, because it’s made pretzel style with a golden egg wash and kosher salt. Served with a beautiful butter-lettuce salad, this dish is sure to trump even the dessert.
Would you believe these four simple ingredients are the basis of this gorgeous, elaborate-looking recipe?
It’s not as hard as it looks! Grab these fourbies and get ready to bakesies.
Start by spraying the bottom of a metal bowl generously with nonstick baking spray.
If you’re using a bowl with a lip on it as I did (which I highly recommend), be sure you super-spray inside the lip. Don’t want your bread basket getting caught up under there!
Now, open your breadsticks and start rolling them into long, thin pieces. Lay this first half of ropes in a straight line like this. Place it all on parchment paper. That’ll make it extra easy to bowlify shortly.
Then start weaving the second half, beginning in the center of the weave.
In less than 10 minutes, you’ll have a big, glorious sheet of woven bread dough. ‘Tis perfection!
Now flip your parchment with the woven dough upside down, placing it all on top of your bowl.
Take a minute and gently tuck the edges into the top of the bowl. Trim as needed, so the dough is fairly even around the edge.
Grab a basting brush and add some egg wash across the top of your bread basket.
Then sprinkle generously with kosher salt. It’s the pretzel way.
Bake on the bottom rack of your oven until golden brown. Then cool, tip, and gently remove from the metal bowl.
Voila! Bread Basket a la Extraordinaire!
Serve it with our butter lettuce, ham, and yumyum salad, and set it on your Easter dinner or spring dinner party.
This dish is just dying to be the center of attention!
