Original Bisquick® mix provides a simple addition to these homemade corn bread sticks that are ready in 25 minutes.

Ingredients

cup Original Bisquick™ mix
1
cup yellow cornmeal
1 1/2
cups buttermilk
2
tablespoons vegetable oil
Yellow cornmeal

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 450°. Grease bottom and sides of 2 loaf pans, 9x5x3 inches, with shortening.
  • 2 Beat eggs in large bowl with hand beater until fluffy. Beat in Bisquick, 1 cup cornmeal, the buttermilk and oil just until smooth (do not overbeat). Pour into pans. Sprinkle lightly with cornmeal.
  • 3 Bake about 15 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from pans. Cut each loaf crosswise into 8 sticks. Serve warm.
Tips  

No buttermilk on hand? Use 1 1/2 tablespoons lemon juice or white vinegar plus enough milk to equal 1 1/2 cups; let stand a few minutes.

These hearty corn sticks are simply superb spread with honey butter or drizzled with maple syrup. They also make dynamite dunkers for bowls of steaming chili.
