  • For a flavor twist, use strawberry-, cranberry- or cherry-flavored gelatin instead of the raspberry.

Ingredients

  • 3/4  cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 1/2  cup sugar
  • 1  teaspoon vanilla
  • 1  box (4-serving size) raspberry-flavored gelatin
  • 1  egg
  • 2  cups all-purpose flour
  • 2  tablespoons yellow candy sprinkles

Directions

  1. 1In large bowl, beat butter, sugar, vanilla, gelatin and egg with electric mixer on medium speed, or mix with spoon. On low speed, beat in flour.
  2. 2Shape dough into 1 1/4-inch balls. Cover and refrigerate 1 hour.
  3. 3Heat oven to 375°F. On ungreased cookie sheets, place balls about 2 inches apart. With sharp knife, make 6 cuts in top of each ball about three-fourths of the way through to make 6 wedges. Spread wedges apart slightly to form flower petals (cookies will separate and flatten as they bake). Sprinkle about 1/8 teaspoon yellow candy sprinkles into center of each cookie.
  4. 4Bake 9 to 11 minutes or until set and edges begin to brown. Cool 2 to 3 minutes. Remove from cookie sheets to cooling rack. Cool completely, about 15 minutes.

One egg wasn't enough. The dough wasn't sticking together enough with just one, so my recommendation is to use two eggs while mixing it. I haven't actually baked them yet, but this might be helpful anyways.

I tried making these lastnight and they were a disaster. they looked so adorable on the pan before baking... then they spread out and looked like a red blob.... they wound up on the "ooops" pile of cookies... I'd love to know how to keep their shape without melding together in the oven.

I tried using my cookie press that I use for my spritz cookies but they wouldn't come out no matter what I tried. I finally piped them and with the third tip they looked cute although they still didn't have the pointed tips even though they looked like that when they were piped and I chilled the dough before I put them in the oven. I'd really like to know exactly how they made them to look as good as they do in the picture. It was a lot of work but now that I have it down, the next time would be easier but I agree with another poster, I really don't care for all of the artificial ingredients.

I decorate these with red icing on the petals and it adds just the right amount of sweetness. They are a big hit everytime I make them!

Cookie press is easy, yes, but doesn't give the same sharp edges. Cookies are more freeform this way too, it's worth the effort! Use other flavor jellos and different centers (lemon with chocolate sprinkles or chips works well) for other seasons/holidays. Great recipe!
