    Ingredients

    • 2 1/2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
    • 1 tsp salt
    • 1 1/2 tbsp unsweetened or Dutch-process cocoa powder
    • 1 tsp baking soda
    • 1/2 cup butter, softened
    • 1 1/2 cups sugar
    • 2  eggs
    • 1/4 cup water
    • 4 tbsp red food coloring
    • 1 cup buttermilk
    • 1 tsp distilled white vinegar

    Directions

    1. 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, cocoa powder and baking soda.
    2. 2In the bowl of a stand mixer fixed with the whisk attachment, combine sugar, butter, eggs and food coloring.
    3. 3Combine water, vinegar and buttermilk in a separate bowl and, while the stand mixer is mixing on low, alternate pouring in flour mixture and buttermilk mixture.
    4. 4Once mix is combined and lump-free, fill 24 lightly greased baking cups in cupcake pan(s) 3/4 full with the batter. Bake about 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
    5. 5Cool about 10 minutes in the cupcake pan(s) before removing and allowing to cool completely on a wire rack.
    6. 6Refrigerate cupcakes for at least 1 hour before frosting. Make sure frosting is at room temperature before using, too.

Hi @rtorr05! In order to get the rich vibrant color pictured, you will need to use the whole 4 tablespoons of food coloring; however, if the color is unimportant to you, feel free to lower the amount to a unit you're more comfortable with.

Is it really supposed to be 4 tablespoons of red food coloring?
