    • 1/4  cup vinegar
    • 2  teaspoons cinnamon
    • 1/4  cup water
    • 1  tablespoon cornstarch

    • 1/2  cup chopped walnuts
    • 1/4  cup firmly packed brown sugar
    • 1/4  teaspoon cinnamon
    • 1  (1 lb. 0.3-oz.) can Pillsbury® Grands!® Refrigerated Buttermilk Biscuits
    • TOPPING, IF DESIRED
    • 1  (8-oz.) container frozen whipped topping, thawed

    Directions

    1. 1In Dutch oven or large saucepan, combine butter, 2 cups brown sugar, 1 1/4 cups water, vinegar and 2 teaspoons cinnamon; mix well. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat; simmer 5 minutes.
    2. 2In small bowl, combine 1/4 cup water and cornstarch; mix well. Stir into hot mixture; cook over medium heat until smooth and thickened, stirring constantly. Stir in vanilla and apples. Bring to a boil; reduce heat and simmer while preparing dumplings.
    3. 3In small bowl, combine walnuts, 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon; mix well. Separate dough into 8 biscuits; cut each biscuit in half crosswise. Cut a deep pocket in each biscuit half. Place about 2 teaspoonfuls nut mixture in each pocket; tightly seal edges. Reserve remaining nut mixture.
    4. 4To make dumplings, bring fruit mixture to a boil. Drop filled biscuit halves into boiling mixture. Sprinkle reserved nut mixture over dumplings. Cover; cook over medium heat 20 to 25 minutes or until dumplings are no longer doughy. Remove cover; cook an additional 10 minutes. Let stand 5 to 10 minutes before serving. To serve, spoon 2 dumplings in each bowl. Spoon fruit mixture over dumplings; top with whipped topping.
