Created after the end of World War I and named for the motorcycle attachment, the traditional version of this cocktail always includes a sugared rim.

Ingredients

Sugar
Ice cubes or crushed ice
2
tablespoons cognac or brandy (1 oz)
2
tablespoons orange-flavored liqueur (1 oz)
1 1/2
tablespoons lemon juice (3/4 oz)

Directions

  • 1 Rub rim of chilled martini glass with water; dip rim of glass in sugar.
  • 2 In martini shaker with ice, shake cognac, liqueur and lemon juice until blended. Pour into glass, straining out ice.
Tips

For best results, use freshly squeezed lemon juice.
