Four simple steps are all it takes to bake this classic cake spiced with cinnamon, nutmeg and cloves. If frosting is desired, use directions for frosting found in this recipe Apple Cake with Browned Butter Frosting.

Ingredients

2 1/4
cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
1 1/2
cups packed brown sugar
2
teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 1/4
teaspoons baking soda
1
teaspoon baking powder
3/4
teaspoon ground cloves
1/2
teaspoon salt
1/2
teaspoon ground nutmeg
1
cup raisins, chopped
1
cup sour cream
1/2
cup chopped walnuts
1/4
cup butter, softened
1/4
cup shortening
1/2
cup water
2
eggs

Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F. Grease bottom and sides of 13x9-inch pan with shortening; lightly flour.
  • 2 In large bowl, beat all ingredients except frosting with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on high speed 3 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour into pan.
  • 3 Bake 40 to 45 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
  • 4 Frost cake with frosting.
Tips

Follow the recipe as directed and pour batter into 2 (8- or 9-inch) round pans; bake 30 to 35 minutes. Cool 10 minutes; remove from pans to cooling racks. Cool completely, about 1 hour.
