Adjust the spiciness of this wrap by adding more or less hot sauce, as desired. Also, use the softest wraps you can find.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole wheat wrap
  • 1/2 haas avocado, sliced
  • 1 slice bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1/2 cup raw baby spinach
  • 3 oz cooked, sliced grilled chicken
  • Hot sauce, to taste

Steps

  • 1
Lay the wrap out on a plate. Arrange the avocado slices down the center of the wrap. Sprinkle the bacon on the avocado. Top with spinach, spreading it out from end to end over the avocado. Top with the grilled chicken.
  • 2
Shake some hot sauce (less if you want it to be mild, more for spicy) onto the chicken.
  • 3
Carefully roll one side of the wrap around the fillings. Continue rolling until it's cylinder-shaped. Secure the wrap with two toothpicks. Cut it in half and serve immediately.

More About This Recipe

  • It must be 1,000 calories – and I am 100-percent in love with it. Though I seldom get that sandwich anymore, I have picked up a few delicious ideas from it.

Most importantly, the use of hot sauce as a condiment.

In the sandwich at that deli, they mix thousand island dressing and hot sauce, but since I am not a big thousand island fan, I order mine with just the hot sauce. Wow. It adds this peppery smokiness that is awesome.

So, when I was envisioning this Spicy Chicken Wrap, I wanted it to be accessible and easy – so you could whip it up when you have 10 minutes to spare. But I also wanted it to be something filling that leaves you licking your lips. (For the record, check, check and check!)

This sandwich starts with a whole wheat wrap. Don’t be afraid to feel up all the wraps and tortillas in the store – you want to find ones that are soft and pliable. Those are the best. Piled onto the wrap are avocado slices, crumbled bacon (just one slice!) and baby spinach. Next comes the warmed chicken, which should be just warm enough to have a contrast with the other cool ingredients. And finally, it’s finished off with hot sauce – as little or as much as you like … it adds awesome flavor.

The most awesome thing about this Spicy Chicken Wrap? It doesn’t need cheese. I am a certified cheese-aholic who is trying to cut back, and I love that this wrap can stand up on its own. It makes it perfect for my Eat. Live. Be. For a Better 2011 plan.
