Super Fiber Smoothie

As prepared by Macheesmo,

I always like to start out the New Year with a bunch of healthy recipes.

I use it as an opportunity to press the reset button, so to speak, and remind myself that eating healthy actually does make me feel better!

The good news about eating healthy is that it doesn’t have to taste bad.

Take this smoothie, for example. I like to call it my Super Fiber Smoothie because with just this one smoothie you’ll get almost all of your recommended fiber needs for the entire day!

I actually calculated it to have around 92% of what you need for a day, which is pretty awesome for a smoothie.

And guess what? It tastes pretty darned good thanks to some delicious fruit and a bit of sweetness from honey.

This is just a fantastic way to start the day, and it all begins with these two ingredients:

Mountain High Yoghurt and Fiber One cereal

Fiber One cereal has an interesting look to it, and I actually like it. It has a slight sweetness to it and lots of crunch, which is essential for a cereal in my opinion!

Making a smoothie isn’t rocket science. Just add all the stuff to a blender.

Here’s the banana going in. Bananas actually have a fair amount of natural fiber so they work great in this smoothie.

Besides the cereal, the second biggest contributor to fiber in this smoothie is flax meal. Be sure to buy the stuff that’s already ground because your body can’t digest the whole seeds.

This stuff is jam-packed with fiber and gives the smoothie a deep, nutty flavor.

I tried the smoothie with just this stuff in it, but found it to be pretty bland so I added some sweetness to it.

Just a few chunks of pineapple and a good drizzle of honey gives the smoothie plenty of natural sweetness.

Adding pineapple and honey

Give this all a spin in your blender. If your blender struggles then the mixture might be a bit too thick. Add more milk to it if this happens until you get it to a consistency that works for you.

It’s not necessary, but I like to top mine off with another sprinkle of cereal.

Super Fiber Smoothie from top

I’m really not a health nut, but even I love the idea of getting all of my daily fiber in one smoothie!

That’s pretty hard to beat.

Give this a shot and kick off 2012 in good health!

Nick wishes everyone a very happy and healthy 2012. Be sure to check out his blog, Macheesmo, and follow him on his Tablespoon profile.
