    Ingredients

    • 1 1/2  cups Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
    • 1/2  cup sugar
    • 2  teaspoons baking powder
    • 1/2  teaspoon salt
    • 1/2  teaspoon ground cinnamon
    • 1/2  teaspoon ground nutmeg
    • 1/2  cup milk
    • 1/2  cup mashed canned sweet potato
    • 1/4  cup (1/2 stick) margarine, melted
    • 1  egg
    • 1/4  cup chopped pecans or walnuts, if desired
    • 1  tablespoon sugar

    Directions

    1. 1Heat oven to 400º. Grease bottoms only of 12 medium muffin cups, 2 1/2x1 1/4 inches, or line with paper baking cups. Mix all ingredients except 1 tablespoon sugar just until flour is moistened. (Batter should be lumpy.) Fill muffin cups two-thirds full. Sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon sugar over batter in each cup. Bake 18 to 20 minutes or until golden brown.
