Ingredients

  • 1/4  cup butter or margarine
  • 1/4  cup Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
  • 1/2  teaspoon salt
  • 1/4  teaspoon pepper
  • 2  cups milk
  • for your taste sugar

Directions

  1. Melt butter in 1 1/2-quart saucepan over low heat. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture is smooth and bubbly; remove from heat.

  2. Gradually stir in milk. Heat sauce to boiling, stirring constantly. Boil and stir 1 minute.

  3. add 1 to 2 tablespoons of sugar and then taste. If not sweet enough continue adding sugar until it is.
