Brunch is a meal that just screams fabulous. Somewhere between breakfast and lunch (hence the name), brunch is an event. In New York, friends will meet in the afternoon on Sundays for mimosas and a leisurely meal. But it's not just a New York thing. On holidays and some Sundays, people all over will trade in breakfast and lunch for a wondrous bruncheon.
But how do you plan a brunch meal?
Since brunch combines breakfast and lunch, you can select from foods that would be appropriate for either. Quiche is a classic brunch food (though I happen to like quiche for breakfast or lunch too). If you are looking for a good one for your brunch, check out the classic Quiche Lorraine. Filled with bacon, swiss, onions and eggy goodness, it's mouthwatering. Looking for something different? Check out Broccoli-Mushroom Quiche and Crab Mini Quiches.
Another great egg dish for brunches are frittatas like a Canadian Bacon and Potato Frittata or a Denver Eggs Frittata, which is stuffed with green and red peppers, hash brown potatoes, onions and cheese. Stratas, which combine eggs and bread, are another classic. Check out the Savory Roasted Vegetable Strata with bits of biscuits and freshly roasted veggies. Want a spicy twist? Check out the Mexi-Chicken Strata.
Then there is my personal fav ... Huevos Rancheros.
But, hey, you can't have a brunch with just eggs! Pancakes like Chocolate Chip Pancakes, Triple Berry Pancakes, Peach Melba Pancakes can be a delicious addition as well. Or what about waffles? Check out Tropical Waffle Bake, Whole-Grain Buttermilk Waffles and Apple Praline Waffles.
Looking for something more savory? How about Bloody Mary Shrimp Cocktail? The combination of a classic brunch drink and a classic shrimp dish sounds delish. Chopped Salad is also great for brunch.
And can you stand one more eggy idea? Deviled Eggs or, better yet, Crabmeat Deviled Eggs be a great addition too.
Whatever you do, don't forget the Mimosas!
