Soup served in a bread bowl is a glorious thing. These particular bread bowls are perfect for a small portion (think lunch, served with a salad, or as an appetizer).
You start with a can of Italian bread dough. For these, I used Pillsbury Country Italian Bread.
Step 1: Open the dough on a floured surface and spread it out. Cut the Italian bread dough into four equal pieces. Cut a circle (or square, if it's easier) in the center of the dough -- this will make it easier to remove.
Step 2: Transfer the dough pieces to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush the tops of the dough with egg white. Bake the dough for 15-20 minutes, until golden on top.
Step 3: Let the bread cool slightly. Remove the centers of each dough piece. You may also want to dig out some of the insides.
Step 4: Fill with soup and serve immediately. Note: It's important not to fill the bread bowls with soup until right when you serve them.
