Tired of waiting for the giant pot of water to boil? Here's how to cook them up fast and easy with steam.
Step 1: Get out the big pot
You will need a large stockpot with a tight-fitting lid to cook the lobsters. Fill the stockpot with about 2 inches of water, and bring it to a boil on the stovetop.
Step 2: Drop in the lobsters
The lobsters should go into the pot claws first. To do this, grasp the body of the lobster and quickly drop it into the pot. Do not overcrowd the pot with lobsters. If necessary, cook the lobsters in two batches of two, or use two stockpots.
Step 3: Steam it
Cover the pot to steam the lobster to perfection. Here's how long it will take:
Step 4: Serve it
- 1 lb - 10 minutes
- 1 ¼ lb - 12 minutes
- 1 ½ lb - 14 minutes
- 2 lbs - 18 minutes
Using tongs, carefully remove the lobsters from the water.
Serve hot with warm, melted butter. If desired, make it clarified butter -- Simply skim the white foam from the top of the butter, leaving only the clear yellow melted butter.
