With just three ingredients, these frozen chocolate-covered banana bites are a fun and easy dessert that’s perfect for little helpers. They come together in just four simple steps, too! After peeling and slicing the bananas, place a toothpick in each slice and pop them in the freezer. Then comes the fun part — dip the frozen bites into melted chocolate and try not to eat them all on the spot! Our Chocolate-Covered Banana Bites are a cool treat for warm summer days or even when you want a little flavor change-up during the holidays.

Ingredients

  • 2 bananas
  • 12 toothpicks
  • 1 bag (12 oz) semisweet or milk chocolate chips (2 cups)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or vegetable shortening

Steps

  • 1
Line cookie sheet with cooking parchment paper.
  • 2
Cut peeled bananas in 1-inch-thick slices. Insert toothpick into each slice; place on cookie sheet. Freeze 30 minutes.
  • 3
In medium microwavable bowl, microwave chocolate chips and coconut oil on High 30 seconds. Stir well; microwave in 15-second increments, stirring well after each, until chocolate is completely melted.
  • 4
Remove bananas from freezer. Dip each in melted chocolate; return to paper-lined cookie sheet. Let stand until chocolate is firm. If not serving immediately, return bananas to freezer.

Expert Tips

  • tip 1
If your melted chocolate is too thick, you can use thin it by adding more vegetable shortening or coconut oil to thin it. Add one teaspoon of the oil at a time to avoid over-thinning your chocolate.
  • tip 2
For a little extra pizazz, garnish your Chocolate-Covered Banana Bites with coconut flakes or candy sprinkles.
  • tip 3
