Apple Pie French Toast

The perfect excuse to eat apple pie for breakfast!

Ingredients

Directions

  • 1 Get a pan on medium heat.
  • 2 While pan is heating, chop apple into cubes.
  • 3 Once pan has heated, add a tablespoon of butter, followed by a 1/2 cup of apples, 1 tablespoon of apple pie spice, 1 teaspoon of sugar, and 1/2 a cup of apple juice.
  • 4 If you cannot find apple pie spice, you can easily make your own. Just combine 5 tablespoons of cinnamon, 1 and a 1/2 teaspoons of nutmeg, a 1/2 teaspoon of all spice, 1 teaspoon of ginger, and 1 teaspoon of cardamom. Shake in jar to combine.
  • 5 Once ingredients have been added to your pan, stir to combine ingredients. Allow it to simmer for 5-10 minutes until the apples have softened, and you have achieved a syrup-like consistency.
  • 6 Get another pan on medium heat with a tablespoon of butter, while your pan is heating prepare your french toast batter.
  • 7 Combine 2 eggs, an 1/8th cup of heavy cream, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, 1/2 teaspoon of sugar, and 1 teaspoon of apple pie spice. Whisk until ingredients have combined.
  • 8 Dip your slices of bread into the mixture, allowing it to soak up the french toast batter, then place both slices into your pan, cooking until golden brown on each side.
  • 9 While everything is cooking, feel free to make some whipped cream, combining a 1/2 cup of whipped cream, a 1/2 teaspoon of sugar and a 1/4 tsp of apple spice, whipping until fluffy.
  • 10 Once everything is done cooking, plate your french toast, followed by the apple pie topping and whipped cream.
  • 11 Finish with a drizzle of syrup from the apple pie mixture and enjoy!

Start with a pan on medium heat. Once heated, add a tablespoon of butter, a 1/2 cup of fresh chopped apples, 1 tablespoon of apple pie spice, 1 teaspoon of sugar and a 1/2 cup of apple juice. Stir and let simmer for 5-10 minutes until the juice has reduced, all of the sugars have melted into a delicious syrup-like consistency, and your apples are tender.

While your apples are cooking, start your French toast batter. In a large bowl combine 2 eggs, a 1/8th cup of heavy cream, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract, a 1/2 teaspoon of sugar, 1 teaspoon of apple pie spice and whisk until ingredients are evenly distributed. 

Next, get a pan on medium heat, with one tablespoon of butter. Once the pan has heated, dip two slices of bread into the French toast batter, then place in the pan and fry until golden brown on both sides.

To prepare the whipped cream, add a 1/2 teaspoon of sugar, and a 1/4 teaspoon of apple pie spice to a 1/2 cup of heavy cream, whipping until fluffy.
