Fried Tamale on a Stick

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean (at least 80%) ground beef
  • 1 packet (1 oz) Old El Paso™ Original Taco Seasoning Mix
  • 1 can (4 oz) Old El Paso™ Chopped Green Chiles
  • 1/2 cup shredded pepper jack cheese
  • 3 cups masa harina
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups warm water
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • Oil for frying

    Brown ground beef in skillet over medium-high heat. Drain meat, then stir in taco seasoning and water according to package; cook for 5 to 8 minutes to reduce liquid.

    Stir in 1 can Old El Paso™ green chiles; cook for 2 minutes or until most of the liquid has evaporated and pan is dry. Let cool completely. Stir in cheese

    Flatten some dough in your hand, then add a spoonful of your taco meat, then wrap the dough around the meat forming a ball.

    Steam your tamale balls for about two hours.

    Remove the balls from the steamer, dust with flour, and fry for a few minutes until browned on all sides.

    Serve with salsa.
